Photohawk

What the Photohawk app does

Photohawk finds the people in your iPhone photos, groups them, and helps you share photos with the people in them. Here's how it fits together.

Updated November 3, 2026

Photohawk (on the App Store as Photohawk: Friends & Family) finds the people in the photos on your iPhone, groups their faces into people, and helps you find and share the photos you're in together.

What you can do

  • See your people. Every face in your library is grouped into people. Name someone once and find them in every photo, and follow them year by year on their timeline.
  • Search by person or place, or both: "Maya and Sam", "Lisbon", "Maya in Lisbon".
  • Share with the people in your photos. Send someone the photos they're in one time, or automatically from now on. Shared photos are end-to-end encrypted.
  • Chat one to one or in a group chat, with photos, messages, captions, reactions and shared albums.
  • On this day shows photos from this date in past years, and Moments gathers birthdays, Christmases and trips.

How it works

  1. You sign in to your Photohawk account.
  2. You tell Photohawk where you live and agree to face grouping and cloud face matching (see the two agreements).
  3. Photohawk scans your photos on your iPhone, newest first, and your people start to appear within a few minutes.

Faces are found on your phone. To group them, Photohawk sends small face cut-outs, never your photos, to your own private collection in our cloud. What stays on your phone explains it in full.

Free and paid

Chatting, receiving photos and one-time sharing are free. Grouping faces into people, automatic sharing, timelines and the rest are part of the Personal and Family plans, which start with a 7-day free trial. See Plans and the free trial.

Questions people ask

Do my photos get uploaded?

No. Your photos stay on your iPhone. They leave it only when you share them (end-to-end encrypted) or order prints. To group people, Photohawk sends small face cut-outs, never whole photos, with your agreement.

Do the people I share with need to pay?

No. Receiving photos, chatting and joining chats are always free, and nothing on their phone is scanned unless they choose to.
