Delivering photos by WhatsApp

Buyers can have their photos sent to WhatsApp as well as by email, for a small fee they pay. How it works, the number check, and re-sending.

Updated November 2, 2026

WhatsApp delivery sends a buyer's photos straight to their phone, as well as by email. It's optional for buyers, and there's nothing for you to set up.

How it works

  • Sales galleries: at checkout, buyers can tick WhatsApp delivery and enter their mobile number. The fee is added to the order as a delivery cost.
  • Free-download galleries: it's offered when a visitor downloads their free photos, as a separate optional payment. The photos stay free.
  • What's sent: photos only. Videos and reels always go by email, and every order still gets its email with the full-resolution files.
  • Which products: downloads that Photohawk sends automatically. Downloads you send yourself aren't sent by WhatsApp.

WhatsApp delivery is offered in galleries priced in pounds, euros, US, Canadian or Singapore dollars, ringgit, pesos (Mexico, Philippines, Colombia) or rand.

The fee

The buyer pays the fee, charged by Photohawk. It doesn't come out of your sales, and it doesn't change what you earn. It's one charge per order, by the number of photos, and buyers see it before they pay. In pounds, for example:

PhotosFee
190p
2 to 10£1.45
11 to 30£1.95
31 to 50£2.45
51 or more£2.95

The number check

When a buyer chooses WhatsApp delivery, their number is checked before they can pay:

  • A number that doesn't exist, or a landline or other number that can't get WhatsApp messages, is refused with a message saying why. The buyer picks their country and types their mobile number.
  • For an internet (VoIP) number, the buyer sees a note to use their mobile number if it doesn't have WhatsApp.
  • Otherwise the buyer sees the number confirmed, such as "We'll send your photos by WhatsApp to +44 7700 900123".

Follow a delivery

Open the order from Orders. Its WhatsApp delivery section shows how many photos were delivered and read, any that failed and why (for example "Not a WhatsApp number (or terms not accepted)" or "Blocked / opted out"), and a link to the Buyer's status page. The buyer gets the same status page by email, where they can retry, change a mistyped number or get the photos by email instead.

Re-send by WhatsApp

In the order, choose Resend WhatsApp message, check the mobile number with the buyer, including the country code, and send. The number is checked again first. See Resend an order.
