A Meta Pixel measures your Facebook and Instagram ads with gallery visits and sales, and lets you build audiences of people who visited your galleries. It's one of the Integrations, on the Pro and Max plans.
Find your pixel ID
- Open Meta Events Manager from your Meta Business account.
- Under Data sources, choose your pixel. If you don't have one, connect a new Web data source and give it a name. You can skip the code: Photohawk adds it.
- Copy the ID shown under the pixel's name, also on its Settings tab. It's 15 or 16 digits, like
123456789012345. Meta may call it a pixel ID or a dataset ID.
Meta's help: Find your pixel ID.
Add it in Photohawk
- Go to Settings in the main menu, then the Integrations tab.
- Paste the ID into Meta Pixel.
- Choose Save integrations.
Every gallery in your workspace now uses it. To use a different pixel for one gallery, for example a client's own, or to leave a gallery out, open the gallery, then Settings, then the Integrations tab, and choose A different ID or Off for this gallery for Meta Pixel.
Check it's working
- In Events Manager, choose your pixel, then Test events.
- Enter your gallery's address and choose Open website.
- In the gallery, choose Accept all in the cookie banner, then open a photo and try a search. The events appear in Test events within seconds.
The Meta Pixel Helper browser extension also shows the events as they're sent.
Events you'll see
| In the gallery | Meta event | Details sent with it |
|---|---|---|
| Page view | PageView | None |
| Photo opened | ViewContent | content_type: product |
| Search | Search | search_type: selfie, number or text |
| Add to cart | AddToCart | value, currency, num_items |
| Checkout started | InitiateCheckout | value, currency, num_items |
| Purchase | Purchase | value, currency, num_items, order_id |
| Photos-ready sign-up | Lead | None |
Meta's automatic events are off, so the pixel sends only these. Use Purchase or Lead as the conversion for your campaigns, and the visitors to build custom audiences for retargeting.
If Photohawk's own pixel is on the same page, the two are kept apart: yours receives only your events.
Questions people ask
Why does Meta show fewer events than the gallery's Analytics tab?
The pixel loads only for visitors who choose Accept all in the gallery's cookie banner, and ad blockers can stop it too. The gallery's Analytics tab counts every visit, so Meta usually sees fewer.
Does Photohawk also send events through Meta's Conversions API?
No. Events are sent only by the pixel in the visitor's browser, after their consent. Nothing is sent from Photohawk's servers to Meta for you.
