Add Google Analytics 4 to your galleries

Find your GA4 measurement ID (G-…), add it under Settings → Integrations, check it in Realtime, and see which events your galleries send.

Updated November 2, 2026

Google Analytics 4 shows the visits, searches and sales from your galleries in your own Google Analytics property. It's one of the Integrations, on the Pro and Max plans.

Find your measurement ID

  1. In Google Analytics, open Admin.
  2. Under Data collection and modification, choose Data streams, then your web stream. If you don't have one, add a Web stream with your gallery's address, such as yourname.photohawk.com or your own domain.
  3. Copy the Measurement ID. It starts with G-, like G-ABC123DEF4.

Google's help: Find your Google tag ID.

Only a GA4 measurement ID works. An old Universal Analytics ID (UA-…) or a Google Tag Manager container ID (GTM-…) isn't accepted, and you don't need Google's tag code: Photohawk adds it.

Add it in Photohawk

  1. Go to Settings in the main menu, then the Integrations tab.
  2. Paste the ID into Google Analytics 4.
  3. Choose Save integrations.

Every gallery in your workspace now uses it. To send one gallery to a different property, or leave it out, open the gallery, then Settings, then the Integrations tab, and choose A different ID or Off for this gallery for Google Analytics 4.

Check it's working

  1. Open one of your galleries in a private browser window and choose Accept all in the cookie banner.
  2. Open a photo and try a search.
  3. In Google Analytics, go to Reports, then Realtime. Within a minute or so you should see a visitor, with the events page_view, view_item and search.

Events you'll see

In the galleryGA4 eventDetails sent with it
Page viewpage_viewThe page address, without any search
Photo openedview_itemNone
Searchsearchsearch_type: selfie, number or text
Add to cartadd_to_cartvalue, currency, num_items
Checkout startedbegin_checkoutvalue, currency, num_items
Purchasepurchasevalue, currency, num_items, transaction_id (the order number)
Photos-ready sign-upgenerate_leadNone

Purchase revenue shows in your reports. Which photos or products were bought isn't sent, so item reports stay empty. To report on search_type or num_items, add them as custom definitions in Google Analytics' Admin. To count sign-ups as conversions, mark generate_lead as a key event.

Your Google Analytics and Photohawk's own analytics are kept apart: neither receives the other's events.

Questions people ask

Why does Google Analytics show fewer visitors than the gallery's Analytics tab?

Google Analytics loads only for visitors who choose Accept all in the gallery's cookie banner, and ad blockers can stop it too. The gallery's Analytics tab counts every visit, so Google Analytics usually shows fewer.

I added a Google Analytics ID to my workspace before Integrations. Do I need to add it again?

No. If it's a GA4 measurement ID (starting with G-), it's already filled in under Integrations. It now loads only after the visitor's consent, and only on Pro and Max. An old UA- ID no longer loads, so add your GA4 measurement ID instead.
