A Pinterest Tag measures your Pinterest ads with gallery visits and sales, and lets you build audiences of people who visited your galleries. It's one of the Integrations, on the Pro and Max plans.
Find your tag ID
- In Pinterest Ads Manager (you need a Pinterest business account), open Ads, then Conversions.
- Choose your tag. If you don't have one, create a Pinterest Tag and choose to install it yourself. You can skip the code: Photohawk adds it.
- Copy the Tag ID. It's 13 digits, like
2612345678901.
Pinterest's help: Install the Pinterest Tag.
Add it in Photohawk
- Go to Settings in the main menu, then the Integrations tab.
- Paste the ID into Pinterest Tag.
- Choose Save integrations.
Every gallery in your workspace now uses it. To use a different tag for one gallery, or to leave a gallery out, open the gallery, then Settings, then the Integrations tab, and choose A different ID or Off for this gallery for Pinterest Tag.
Check it's working
- Install the Pinterest Tag Helper extension in Chrome.
- Open one of your galleries in a new window and choose Accept all in the cookie banner.
- Open a photo and try a search. Tag Helper lists your tag ID and the events it sends.
Events also show on the Conversions page in Ads Manager, usually after a short delay.
Events you'll see
| In the gallery | Pinterest event | Details sent with it |
|---|---|---|
| Page view | The tag's page view | None |
| Photo opened | pagevisit | None |
| Search | search | search_type: selfie, number or text |
| Add to cart | addtocart | value, currency, order_quantity |
| Checkout started | Not sent | – |
| Purchase | checkout | value, currency, order_quantity, order_id |
| Photos-ready sign-up | lead | None |
Use checkout or lead as the conversion for your campaigns, and the visitors to build audiences for retargeting.
Questions people ask
Why does Pinterest show fewer events than the gallery's Analytics tab?
The tag loads only for visitors who choose Accept all in the gallery's cookie banner, and ad blockers can stop it too. The gallery's Analytics tab counts every visit, so Pinterest usually sees fewer.
Why is there no event when a buyer starts checkout?
Pinterest has no standard event for starting a checkout. Its checkout event means a completed purchase, so Photohawk sends it only when an order is paid.
