Microsoft Clarity shows how visitors use your galleries, with heatmaps and session recordings. It's one of the Integrations, on the Pro and Max plans.
Find your project ID
- Sign in at clarity.microsoft.com and choose New project.
- Give it a name and your gallery's address, such as
yourname.photohawk.comor your own domain. You can skip the install step: Photohawk adds the code. - In the project, open Settings, then Overview, and copy the Project ID. It's usually 10 lower-case letters and digits, like
abcd1efgh2.
Microsoft's help: Set up Clarity.
Add it in Photohawk
- Go to Settings in the main menu, then the Integrations tab.
- Paste the ID into Microsoft Clarity.
- Choose Save integrations.
Every gallery in your workspace now uses it. To use a different project for one gallery, or to leave a gallery out, open the gallery, then Settings, then the Integrations tab, and choose A different ID or Off for this gallery for Microsoft Clarity.
Check it's working
- Open one of your galleries in a private browser window and choose Accept all in the cookie banner.
- Look around: open a few photos and try a search.
- In Clarity, open Recordings. Clarity says new data can take up to two hours to appear, so check back later if it's empty.
Events you'll see
Clarity records pages, clicks and scrolling by itself. Photohawk also sends these custom events, by name only, with no values:
| In the gallery | Clarity custom event |
|---|---|
| Photo opened | photo_viewed |
| Search | search_selfie, search_number or search_text |
| Add to cart | add_to_cart |
| Checkout started | begin_checkout |
| Purchase | purchase |
| Photos-ready sign-up | lead |
Filter recordings and heatmaps by these custom events, for example to watch sessions that ended in a purchase.
On galleries with your tools, searches are kept out of the page address, so recordings don't show what someone searched for in the address bar.
Questions people ask
Why does Clarity show fewer sessions than the gallery's Analytics tab?
Clarity loads only for visitors who choose Accept all in the gallery's cookie banner, and ad blockers can stop it too. The gallery's Analytics tab counts every visit, so Clarity usually records fewer.
Do recordings show what visitors type?
That's up to Clarity's masking setting, in your Clarity project's Settings. By default it hides what people type into boxes. Leave it on, or choose Strict to hide all text.
