Each gallery is set up by its owner, the photographer or the event, in one of two ways:
| Gallery | What you see | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free downloads | The photos, free to download | The photos, free. Usually paid for by the organiser, a sponsor or a club. |
| Selling | Watermarked previews you can search and browse | The photos, once you've bought them, at the prices the photographer sets |
Some galleries do both: free downloads, with prints or higher-quality files to buy.
In a selling gallery
The preview you browse isn't what you buy. Previews are watermarked to protect the photographer's work, and some galleries also cover the people in previews; you reveal part of a person at a time to check the photo. When you buy, you get the photo without the preview watermark.
Prices and bundles, such as all your photos from an event for one price, are set by the photographer, so they vary between galleries.
In a free-download gallery
Choose your photos and download them, free: they're ready to save straight away, with no checkout. See How do I download my photos?
Logos or frames on your photos
Some events and photographers put their own branding on the photos they deliver, such as a logo, a sponsor or a frame. That's common in free galleries paid for by a sponsor, and it's their choice. If you're unsure, contact the photographer or event that runs the gallery.
Questions people ask
Is the photo I buy watermarked?
Not with the preview watermark. The watermarked version is only the preview you browse. Some events add their own logo or frame to the photos they deliver.
Can I use a race photo in an advert?
Ask the photographer first. Buying a photo doesn't automatically give you every right to it.
